Ōpoutūkeha / Cox’s Creek awa hīkoi

Join us on this leisurely exploration of the lower reaches of Ōpoutūkeha / Cox’s Creek. We’ll look at the impact of flooding, the work some biodiversity groups are doing to minimise future impact and talk about what you can do to make you and your property more resilient during future rains.

We’ll be hearing how Hakanoa Reserve has been transformed from a little-loved link between Hakanoa and Sackville streets into a delightful, plant-filled suburban haven. Then we’ll discover a regenerating wetland you probably never knew about, on the site of a timber mill that once operated beside Cox’s Creek.

When: Saturday 11 October 10am to noon

Where meet in Hakanoa Reserve: look for the Urban Ark flag. There is limited parking in the area so walk, bus or cycle if you can.

Wear Decent shoes. We’ll be covering some rough ground.
