Friends of Wairaki Stream is a volunteer group dedicated to restoring and improving the Wairaki Stream catchment home to native fish, bird, and plant species. Located in the suburb of Lynfield it gets its name from its distinctive northerly water (wai) flow through Lynfield Reserve (raki) therefore has been called Wairaki. It flows north for 400m before taking a sharp left turn and emptying into the Manukau Harbour. Over the last 7 years and still ongoing today, planting and restoration has been focused on the northern part of the stream that runs through Lynfield Reserve with weeding taking place further down stream.
You can enjoy the stream by accessing the walkway from Orsova Place. Turning right at the walkways end will take you up and out to the playground, reserve field, and local skatebowl.
Join FOWS today to run the local trapline or to get involved in some local weeding and planting. Check out the events now —>
