In line with the aims of both Pest Free Auckland and the nationwide Predator Free 2050 movement, our primary focus is on removing rats, possums and stoats from Tāmaki Makaurau – reserves, parks, stream-sides and urban backyards.
Parallel work will suppress the worst of invasive weed species, reduce pest insects and encourage native planting. The resulting low-predator landscapes and corridors will enable wildlife populations to spread, thrive and move back into the city.
By motivating communities, inspiring schools and encouraging businesses to take part, we hope to make Auckland’s central isthmus a welcoming destination for native birds following, filling the gap between the predator-free Hauraki Gulf islands and Waitākere sanctuaries.
We’d love to see kākā breeding across the region and kōtare along all streams.
