Hīkoi Waitītiko: Ōwairaka to Rocket Park

Saturday 4 October 2025, 1:00pm - 3:30pm

THIS HIKOI HAS BEEN POSTPOND DUE TO FORECAST RAIN. A NEW DATE WILL BE NOTIFIED SOON. APOLOGIES TO THE TICKETHOLDERS.

Waitītiko / Meola Creek rises on the slopes of Ōwairaka / Mt Albert and flows to 7km to the Waitematā at Te Tokaroa / Meola Reef. Today’s guided walk covers the first third or this distance from the Ōwairaka tihi (summit) to Rocket Park taking in the delightful Roy Clements Treeway. Performer, sculptor, comedian and Iwi advocate Pita Turei (Ngai Tai Ki Tamaki, Ngāti Pāoa, Ngā Rauru Kītahi) will tell some pakiwaitara (Māori stories) along the way, and STEPS will explain their efforts to enhance native biodiversity along the various channels, culverts and tributaries.

The event is FREE but ticketed. Book your tickets here.

Organised and run by SPiCE (Sandringham Project in Community Empowerment) and STEPS (St Lukes Environmental Protection Society)
