Exploring Ōpoutūkeha - Cox’s Creek
Saturday 13 June 2026, 10:00am - 12:00pm
Hidden away in pipes below Grey Lynn, Ōpoutūkeha - Cox’s Creek largely goes unnoticed. But in January 2023 it forcefully reminded us of its presence leaving houses and businesses flooded. Join us for a lively guided walk along the lower route of the creek to understand more about the flooding and learn about things we can all do improve flood resilience. We will visit exciting sites where local volunteers are doing their bit for biodiversity and contributing to taming stormwater runoff. We will start at Rose Road Gully where Covid lockdowns sparked a flurry of weeding and planting, we will then walk through the delightful Hakanoa Reserve, visit the bustling Kelmarna Gardens and finish with a rare look at a restored wetland on the former site of Cashmore’s timber mill.
