Walmer Reserve is a rare green space within suburban Point Chev and it needs some care. If you can spare and hour or two we’d love you to join Pest Free Point Chevalier this Sunday to help release native plants from smothering exotic species.

Where: Walmer Reserve
When: Sunday 5 May, 10am-noon.
Meet: 76 Moa Road, Point Chevalier.
Recommended to bring: Water bottle, sun hat, sunblock, closed shoes/boots.

Group: Pest Free Pt Chevalier

Here’s a chance to sort out your issues with using trap.nz and managing data for your trapping group. The session is mainly aimed at trapping group leaders and data managers but is open to anyone keen to use trap.nz. There won’t be any formal presentation, just a chance to bring your problems and discuss how to resolve them in a group situation. Bring your laptop: we can hook you up with wifi.

We hope to cover:

• How to add a new trap
• How to move a trap
• How to retire a trap
• How to add a catch
• How to add a record when nothing has been caught
• What to do when you get a notification that someone wants to join your group

Kēreru, kākā and other large charismatic bird species often get their day in the sun, but habitat restoration and predator control also benefit our more reclusive native creatures.

Hear ecologist Nick Harker, president of the NZ Herpetological Society, talk about New Zealand’s native lizard fauna and what we can do to give them a fighting chance. After his presentation there will be a chance of close encounters with a few living examples of what may one day be regular denizens of our parks, reserves and even back gardens across Tāmaki Makaurau.

Getting there Several frequent bus services run along Gt North Rd. Visit AT’s Journey Planner.

Parking Lock your bike to the railing right by the front door. Disabled car parking is easiest in the main Waiōrea Community Recycling Centre car park. One of the bollards will be removed for access. There is loads more free parking nearby, beside the Western Springs Garden community hall, see map.
