Join local community groups STEPS and SPICE for a journey along our local waterway, Waitītiko-Meola Creek from the summit of Ōwairaka-Mt Albert down to the hidden awa beyond Rocket Park. Be immersed in pakiwaitara (Māori stories) about Tāmaki Makaurau-Auckland with local iwi advocate and respected storyteller Pita Turei. Learn about the channels, culverts, tributaries, and efforts to enhance native biodiversity with STEPS (St Lukes Environmental Protection Society).
Where: Mt Albert Summit
Getting there: Catch bus to Mt Albert town centre or drive to the Ōwairaka car park, then walk up Summit Drive into the domain and walk up the stairs to the very top. Carpool may be available back to start from end point.
What to bring: Hat, water, walking shoes, cold/wet weather gear, sunscreen.
