The Avenue Reserve - Native Planting Event
Friday 10 July 2026, 1:00pm - 3:30pm
We’re transforming this under-utilised patch of grass into a future habitat area for native wildlife, which will provide environmental education opportunities for local schools while leaving some open space for recreation.
The Matariki constallation rises in mid winter marking the Māori new year and signalling time for soil preparation and planting native trees (te whakato rākau), so we’ve chosen Matariki as a time to bring the local community together for this native planting event.
This project is supported by Puketāpapa Local Board, Halsey Drive School and Transpower’s Community Care Fund which assists communities affected by Transpower’s overhead lines and substations by investing in local projects that add value and long-term benefits to those communities.
Please make sure you register here - so we know how much gear and catering to bring!
Bring: Water bottle, sunhat/cap.
Wear: Sturdy closed footwear with good grip (boots ideal).
Urban Ark will provide:
-Spades and gloves (but feel free to bring your own).
-Refreshments when the mahi is done.
FYI some grass will be sprayed by contractors to prepare the site, so please don’t worry if you see dead grass prior to the planting date - it’s all for a good cause.
