This month, Pt Chev’s Second Sunday Weeders will be working along the banks of Waitītiko / Meola Creek beside the Waiōrea Community Recycling Centre (where Urban Ark has its office). This is an area that has had quite a bit of restoration over the past decade and it is looking pretty good, but around this time of year the weeds go nuts. Let’s pare them back and give the new plantings room to breathe.

We know this is a busy time of year, but here’s an opportunity to clear your head a bit.

• Meet at Waiōrea Community Recycling Centre (WCRC), 990 Gt North Rd at the southern end of the car park. Note that the secondhand shop will be open from 9am, so watch out for traffic. WCRC parking is reserved for shop users so please park outside the Western Springs Garden Community Hall, 956 Gt North Rd, or on the west side of Motions Rd. Both have free unlimited parking.
• Bring your favourite gardening gloves and secatuers if you have them, but we’ll also have spare gear you can borrow.
• If you don’t have two hours to spare, but drop in for as long as you can manage.

Sometimes there is cake, often there is good chat, and always there are weeds to pull.
