If you’re trapping in the Urban Ark area, we want to know what you’re up to.
If you are part of a local group – Pest Free Mt Eden, Predator Free Herne Bay Ponsonby etc – please report your trapping activity using whatever system your group uses. This might be emailing your group leader or recording your activity on an online form.
If you’re not part of a local group, you can record your catches using this form.
Recording trap activity is important because:
- it tells us who is actively trapping
- it tells us what is being caught, and where
- it allows us to create ‘heat maps’ showing where the most predators are being caught. We can then target those areas with more traps
We know that most people only want to record the catches they’ve made, but we encourage people to record times when you’ve checked your trap and caught nothing, especially during ANJA months. This tells us that the trap is being actively set and checked (not just smothered by weeds in the corner of your garden).
People trapping in Auckland Council reserves usually record trapping activity on CatchIT, run by the University of Auckland’s Department of Statistics. Most backyard trapping groups use Trap.NZ, which also comes with a phone app. Urban Ark is working towards a unified way of showing trapping activity across the inner west of Tāmaki Makaurau.
