Wellparkers love Grey Lynn’s Wellpark Reserve. Most of us live in the surrounding streets and wander through regularly: exercising the dog, on the way to West Lynn shops, or just to appreciating a bit of birdsong around the Edgar’s Creek wetland by the Maxwell Ave footbridge.
Some years back, a bunch of residents did a couple of weeding and planting bees and helped establish nikau, kahikatea and other natives. They’re doing well, but benefit from occasional attention. The group’s original working bee in December 2020 cleared a lot of the worst weeds and removed a few bags of rubbish that had accumulated. We plan to keep on top of the weeds, plant some more natives in winter and encourage neighbours to do some backyard trapping.
If you want to support our little piece of Nature in the City, get in touch, spread the word and come along to our next working bee.
