Second Sunday Weeders 2025 August: Walmer Reserve
Sunday 10 August 2025, 9:00am - 11:00am
Join Pt Chev’s Second Sunday Weeders for this month’s visit to Walmer Reserve, a place we’ve weeded a few times before. This seasonally-damp reserve already has a thriving forest of tī kōuka (cabbage trees) with a coulpe of kahikatea poking through the canopy, but weeds are always a threat. We can help this young forest with some timely weed control.
Back in March we did a pretty good job of removing moth plant and woolly nightshade (plus a good bit of blackberry); this time we’ll attack arum lillies, montbretia, blackberry (again) and perhaps some cape ivy.
- Meet on the grass beside Moa Rd between #74 and #80.
- Bring your favourite gardening gloves and secatuers if you have them, but we’ll also have spare gear you can borrow.
- If you don’t have two hours to spare, but drop in for as long as you can manage.
Sometimes there is cake, often there is good chat, and always there are weeds to pull.
