Sadly, we don’t see korimako (Anthornis melanura) in most of suburban Auckland. Even more sadly we don’t get to hear those mellifluous tones.
Head over to Rangitoto and Motutapu or up to Tiritiri Matangi or Shakespear Regional Park and you’ll hear them ringing out through the trees. We’d love to hear them in our patch. There have been sightings in Titirangi and Te Atatu, and even one claimed for Mt Eden, but it could be a while before bellbird song is a regular feature of our hood.
Visit New Zealand Birds Online for more on korimako.
