We’re not aware of any kākā nesting in the inner west, but there have definitely been sightings.
Central Auckland is sandwiched between resident populations of kākā (Nestor meridionalis) in the Waitākere Ranges and on Hauraki Gulf islands. Kākā are happy flying long distances and sometimes stop over in between the two areas. In the central west there have been sightings in Mt Albert, at a couple of locations in Pt Chevalier, in a backyard in West Lynn and in Eden Terrace. If you see (or hear), or anything else of interest, please record your observation on eBird or email Enable JavaScript to view protected content..
