Bat walk - Chamberlain Park Fringe
Come for a stroll on a spring evening along forest margins close to fresh water. We’ll be carrying bat monitors and hoping to detect ngā pekepeka, New Zealand’s endangered long-tailed bats. There are bats not far away in the Waitakere Ranges, but previous surveys haven’t found bats in Auckland’s inner west. We’re hoping to change that.
Helping us, for one night only, is Auckland Council Senior Conservation Adviser and NZBatman, Ben Paris.
Bring strong footwear, something warm to wear and a torch (preferably with a red light or a red filter). If it is raining we’ll delay to another day.
Meet at Rawalpindi Reserve on Rawalpindi St, Mt Albert.
